How much Codex does ChatGPT Pro include? We priced the weekly limit in dollars

A full weekly Codex window on ChatGPT Plus has been worth a median $67 of API-priced usage since August 2026. OpenAI sells Pro as 5x and 20x the Plus allowance, which projects to about $335 a week on Pro 5x ($100) and about $1,340 a week on Pro 20x ($200). Those Pro figures hold only if the weekly window scales as far as the 5-hour one, and there is a simple way to check that yourself.
This page answers one question from our full 60-day study of ChatGPT Pro and Codex against Claude Max: how much Codex a ChatGPT plan really gives you. The numbers come from 27 measured weekly Codex windows, priced at the OpenAI API list price in force on the day of each request.
How do Codex usage limits work?
Two rolling windows, one of 5 hours and one of a week, spent in tokens rather than messages. Codex shows each window as a percentage used, and a run stops when either one reaches 100%. How fast you use it depends on the model, how much context the session holds, how hard the model reasons and how many tools it calls. A long session in a large repository costs more per turn than a fresh one.
Because Codex logs the percentage alongside every request, you can price a window in dollars. Divide the API cost of the requests by the percentage points they used, then multiply by 100.
When do Codex usage limits reset?
The 5-hour window resets 5 hours after it opens, and the weekly window about 7 days after its first request, not on a fixed calendar day. A new weekly period starts with your first Codex request after the last one ended, so two users on the same plan reset on different days. The two windows are checked separately: a fresh 5-hour window does not help if the weekly gauge is at 100%.

How much is a week of Codex on ChatGPT Plus worth?
$67 at API prices since August 2026, and $115 before that. The last seven weekly windows we measured all fell between $61 and $81.

Did Codex limits get smaller in August?
Probably not. The tokens got cheaper. In August the default Codex model moved from GPT-5.5, listed at $5 input and $30 output per million tokens, to Sol at $2 and $10. If the weekly quota tracks compute, cheaper tokens mean fewer dollars per window for the same amount of work.
ChatGPT Plus vs Pro: how much more Codex do Pro 5x and Pro 20x include?
About $335 a week on Pro 5x and about $1,340 a week on Pro 20x, projected. We haven’t run the Pro plans. These are the measured $67 Plus week multiplied by OpenAI’s published 5x and 20x.

One caution comes from the other side of the market. Anthropic also labels its $200 plan 20x, and there the weekly limit turned out to be only about 1.5 to 2 times the $100 plan’s. OpenAI’s weekly window may scale fully, or it may not.
How can you check whether Pro 20x really gives 20x per week?
Watch the weekly gauge during your first week. A full Plus week is one twentieth of a full Pro 20x week, or 5 percentage points. A full, Plus-sized day of work should therefore move the Pro 20x weekly gauge by about 1 point. If it moves by 3 or 4, your real weekly multiplier is closer to 5x than 20x.
Is Codex on ChatGPT Pro better value than Claude Max?
At $200, yes, by about 2.4x on finished coding tasks, provided the weekly multiplier holds above about 7x. Claude Max 20x holds more API value per week, at about $1.86k. But GPT-6 Sol needed 3.3 times (DataCamp) to 4.2 times (codeongrass) fewer dollars than Claude to finish the same job. At $100, Claude Max 5x and ChatGPT Pro 5x come out close to even. Availability varies, too. buildthisnow reports that new sign-ups to the $200 Pro tier have been paused since 10 September 2026.
